About La Leona Waterfall
Hidden deep inside the tropical dry forest of Rincón de la Vieja, La Leona Waterfall is a one-of-a-kind adventure through volcanic canyons carved by the Río Blanco. Along the hike, you may spot monkeys, tropical birds, and wildlife moving freely through the forest. The river’s striking turquoise-blue color comes from volcanic minerals and sulfur flowing directly from the volcano, creating crystal-clear pools, caves, and dramatic landscapes that exist nowhere else in Costa Rica.
Finca Curubanda is the only private property located directly beside La Leona Waterfall, offering two exclusive and official access routes to the waterfall. Since 2019, Finca Curubanda has designed, developed, and maintained the original and safest trails that lead to La Leona Waterfall, making us the official route creators.
Our property provides authorized access for over 10 local tour operators and more than 30 tourism companies in the area, serving as the main gateway for visitors who explore La Leona Waterfall.
